In order to score the edTPA, you must meet the criteria outlined in the Scorer Experience Qualifications section below.

Scorer Experience Qualifications:

Current or Retired Higher Education Faculty, Field Supervisors, Teacher Preparation Program Administrators and other Higher Education Educators at a state-endorsed Teacher Preparation Programs.

Have content-specific expertise in the content area you are applying to score in one (1) or more of the following ways:

  • University or PK-12 classroom teaching experience within the United States
  • Extensive professional development
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (If you received your degree outside of the United States, a Foreign Equivalency Report is required stating that you have an equivalent of at least 4-year degree in the United States. It is your responsibility to obtain this report. You may email your report to HR if you receive an offer of employment)

 

Current or Retired PK-12 Classroom Teacher, Induction or Peer Assistance Mentor/Coach, National Board-Certified Teacher (NBCT), School Principal or Other PK-12 Administrator (e.g. Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, etc.)

Have content-specific expertise in the content area you are applying to score in one (1) or more of the following ways:

  • Classroom teaching experience within the United States
  • Extensive professional development
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (If you received your degree outside of the United States, a Foreign Equivalency Report is required stating that you have an equivalent of at least 4-year degree in the United States. It is your responsibility to obtain this report. You may email your report to HR if you receive an offer of employment)

 

AND
Work with teacher candidates or teachers within the last 5 years in one (1) or more of the following ways:

  • Teach a content-specific course within a Teacher Preparation program (content-specific curriculum, instruction, and/or assessment in the edTPA content area you are applying to score)
  • Supervise field experiences of teacher candidates in the edTPA content area you are applying to score
  • Lead or assist with edTPA implementation at your college/university
  • Provide instruction/professional development to teacher candidates/beginning teachers in the edTPA content area you applying to score

 

AND Must meet either A or B
A) Hold a current teaching license from a State Education Agency in the edTPA field you are applying to score
AND
Have worked in a PK-12 classroom setting, within the past five (5) years either:

• Hosting/Mentoring teacher candidates in the edTPA field in which you are currently certified/licensed and applying to score
OR
• Supervising/Mentoring beginning teachers in the edTPA field in which you are currently certified/licensed and applying to score

B) Hold a current National Board certification in the edTPA field you are applying to score
AND
Have worked with (e.g., taught, mentored, supervised) teacher candidates or beginning teachers within the past five (5) years in the edTPA content area you are applying to score.

Highly preferred but not required:

  • Hold a state agency issued license or credential to teach English Language Learners or have experience with English Language Learners in the last 10 years
  • Have experience scoring performance-based assessments
  • Familiarity with performance-based assessments of teachers or children
  • Actively participated with professional associations in a content-specific area

 

Qualification Verification:

To verify employment, the application requests your supervisor contact information and PK-12 teacher certificate/license details (if applicable). This information will be used for verification purposes only.

edTPA Scorer Expectations:

  • Pearson offers compensation packages that reward exceptional quality and productivity. Scoring is generally compensated at $75 per porfolio, with training paid $15/hr (depending on location).
  • Scoring activities are distributed and scorers are expected to provide the working environment and equipment needed to complete the scoring activities (e.g., published minimum CPU and monitor recommendations)
  • Scorers must meet minimum requirement for home computing hardware, monitor, and bandwidth provided by their internet service provider, in order to be eligible for the program
  • For security reasons, scorers may not use shared office computers or work from institutional computer labs
  • The edTPA scorer role requires an initial commitment of 19 - 24 hours of training.  After training is complete, scorers must be committed to scoring a minimum of ONE (1) portfolio (approximately 2 - 3 hours per portfolio) each week
  • Scoring will be available seven days per week, except for outages/system maintenance or Pearson corporate holidays.
  • Scorers receive training that is online and self-paced. Additionally, there may be scheduled group webinars or virtual classroom sessions (which may require system downloads to support)
  • Phone access required while on computer for these sessions, cell, home or internet are all acceptable
  • Scorers participate in regular activities to ensure calibration to the rubrics
  • Scorers will be assigned to content areas and disciplines in which they have current license and experience
  • Scorer Supervisors will include experienced scorers

Requirements:

  • U. S. citizenship, resident alien status or authorized to work in the U.S.
  • U.S. residency
  • All scoring and other work activities must be completed in the United States
  • Meet the minimum qualifications under the Scorer Expectations as listed above
